Tateni Community Care Service is a community-based non-governmental organization (NGO) in Mamelodi West, Pretoria, South Africa that exists since 1995. Our initial focus was on home-based care for the frail and terminally ill people in Mamelodi.

The focus was then shifted to give attention to the plight of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). Three years ago Tateni further broadened its focus to include youth development. This programme was launched with an initiative called “Breaking the Cycle of Poverty”. This initiative aims at equipping young people for adulthood and to “break free” from those forces keeping them locked into poverty.

“We believe in that Mamelodi is a community that cares for the vulnerable and invests in it’s children, the youth and the elderly”

Therefore our mission is to work with the community, government and business partners, both locally and internationally, in delivering services aimed at:
  • Caring for the orphans and vulnerable children and preparing them for a better future.
  • Empowering disadvantaged school leavers as well as in and out of school youth to break the cycle of poverty and reach their full potential.
  • Caring for the aged who are needy, frail and sick.
